Recently Kentucky has experienced several severe tornado events that have caused damaged to woodlands throughout the state. KFIA has been involved with a number of state agencies and partners to provide marketing information for storm damaged wood to assist with clean up efforts. The Association has put together information on pulpwood and chip markets that are available to purchase wood from storm damage areas and can be accessed at this link.
Cost share assistance is available to forest landowners for up to $620 per acre for clean up efforts through the local county Farm Service Agency office. Multiple agencies have additional resources available to assist homeowners and landowners to make decisions about tree safety, pruning, salvage harvesting, and preventing additional damage after a storm.
A list of logging contractors by county can be found online at www.masterlogger.org and KFIA is working with members to develop a specific list of contractors that have the capability to do clean up damaged woodland sites.
