The 27th Annual Kentucky Wood Expo took place in London, KY on September 18 & 19 at the Laurel London Optimist Sports Complex. The show returned to London this year and had an excellent turnout of industry attendees. A big thanks goes out to the Optimist Club for their co-operation during the week and the London/Laurel Tourist Commission along with the London community for all their support for the show. The Expo is conducted by the Kentucky Forest Industries Association to provide members an opportunity to see new technology and make purchasing decisions.
There was a little rain on Friday but that didnt deter the visitors. Saturdays weather was very nice and an estimated 4,000 visitors came through the show from over 18 states. The industry crowd was excellent with a number of exhibitors making contacts and selling equipment. The show is also a big success in London thanks to the assistance from all of the Association members in the area that helped to provide materials and labor for the Expo.
In addition to equipment and exhibitors, there were plenty of activities for everyone to participate in and enjoy. On Friday, the show hosted an educational day for area school children that attracted over 800 participants that attended courses and competed in activities. In the Lumberjack Arena, visitors watched as local High School FFA Programs competed for prizes and bragging rights. Master Logger continuing education was also conducted covering the Emerald Ash Borer Quarantine and Requirements. A class on with hands-on equipment and maintenance training was conducted on Saturday.
On Saturday, the show hosted a Kentucky Lumberjack Invitational for competitors throughout the region. Skidder and knuckleboom loader contests were conducted for the local loggers to get in on the action and win some prize money.
The Kentucky Wood Expo is sponsored by the Kentucky Forest Industries Association (KFIA), which is a trade association dedicated to serving and promoting the forest products industry of Kentucky. Founded in 1965, it has over 800 members in the areas of primary and secondary wood industry, supplier and service industries, wholesale, loggers and landowners.
