2009 Master Tree Farmer Series

Forest Risks and Risk Management -- March 2, 9, 16, 2009

Risks exist with every endeavor we face in life and this is certainly true with forest management. This three-week event will concentrate on the risks associated with forest management and allow landowners and natural resource professionals to consider how they can manage forests and forestland to plan for and minimize problems they may face.

Are you aware of the risks associated with woodland ownership? Do you know how to minimize those risks? Are you currently dealing with issues such as wind, fire, drought, or ice damage? How about invasive plants, insects, and diseases? Are you concerned about timber theft, trespass, or taxes? What does global climate change mean to a woodland owner? Woodland ownership can be a rewarding experience but it can also be stressful and less than satisfyingly if you are not fully informed of the opportunities and risks associated with ownership. This program will prepare you to get the most out of your woodland ownership experience.

Dr. Jeff Stringer, a renowned hardwood silviculture expert, of the University of Kentucky Department of Forestry Extension will be leading the Master Tree Farmer series on Risk and Risk Management. This program will include live presentations from Dr. Stringer and other Kentucky forestry experts as well as recorded sessions from forestry experts across the southern United States. Program participants will receive a notebook and speakers notes for each session. Those completing the program will receive a certificate and a subscription to Kentucky Woodlands Magazine.
