KFIA 44th ANNUAL MEETING INVADES LEXINGTON, KY
The Kentucky Forest Industries Association (KFIA) recently completed a very successful 44th annual meeting in Lexington, Kentucky at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort. The meeting was held April 1-3, 2009 and was well attended by just fewer than 300 members. The KFIA Annual Meeting serves as the premier event for the hardwood industry in Kentucky and got underway with a great day of golf that benefited Log a Load for Kids. The golf outing raised over $2000 for the Kentucky Childrens Hospital.
Thursday morning started off with the Board of Directors taking care of association business and was followed by the KFIA/Tree Farm Awards Luncheon. Joe Kelly, Senior Advisor for the Mayor of Lexington officially welcomed the group to the Lexington. The luncheon provided an opportunity to honor a wide range of individuals that help to make forestry and the wood industry a big success throughout the state. The afternoon included committee meetings discussing issues affecting wood processing in Kentucky with presentations from Mark Peachey, Director of International Trade for Kentucky Cabinet of Economic Development and David Caldwell, Hardwood Market Report. As usual tradition everyone enjoyed the Robinson Lumber/ Van Meter Insurance Hospitality Suite with great seafood and special cuisine straight from New Orleans. The day concluded with the Exhibitor Reception and plenty of time to see some of the latest technology and services being offered to the wood industry.
Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo gave opening statements and his vision for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Other conference speakers were: Ken Negray, NewPage Corporation who gave a presentation on certification in the hardwood industry. David Caldwell, Hardwood Market Report provided information about the global economy and future markets. Director Rodney Andrews from University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research provided information on bio energy in Kentucky.
The meeting was a tremendous success and those in attendance gained valuable information while having time to network with others in the hardwood industry from throughout the country. KFIA is pleased to announce that the 2010 Annual Meeting will be in Bowling Green, KY at the Holiday Inn Plaza.
KFIA is a trade association dedicated to serving and promoting the forest products industry of Kentucky. Founded in 1965, it has over 600 members in the areas of primary and secondary wood industry, supplier and service industries, wholesale, loggers and landowners.
