The Kentucky Forest Industries Association through the insurance committee is proud to work with both Van Meter Insurance and BB&T Insurance Services and look at ways to assist members with insurance needs at reasonable rates. Both companies are endorsed by KFIA and provide additional funding for association programs that benefit all of our members and address a wide variety of insurance needs.
Van Meter Insurance has the ability to write insurance into the self-insured Forest Industry Workers’ Compensation Fund that offers very competitive rates for those manufacturing members that meet the requirements. The cost of worker’s compensation for logging continues to be a major issue in the wood industry. KFIA continues to support and look at ways to reduce the current high rates. Supporting expansion of the certified master logger program is offering opportunities for lower rates and the Association is working with groups of loggers to get better rates.
The past year has also brought on the introduction of a special health plan made available to members through an agreement with the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers. BB&T Insurance has been able to put together a plan that is available to all KFIA members that can save members on costs and decrease future health insurances increases significantly. In addition the Association will benefit financially and looks forward to an excellent working relationship with new partner BB&T Insurance.
KFIA and Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance (PLM) has reached an agreement beginning in 2011 for a Dividend Program for all Association members that they insure for property and casualty. The program will return a 2.5% to 10% dividend to each member in the program depending on the losses of the group over each year. The Association is excited to offer this benefit to members and appreciates the support from PLM to assist with additional sponsorship of Association programs.
An insurance program for landowners being offered by Davis-Garvin Insurance to cover liability for landowners and hunt clubs. This program offers very reasonable rates to make sure that both owners and those leasing lands are properly covered for any liability issues. This is another service that will help KFIA to offer additional services to our landowner members.
The Kentucky Forest Industries Association continues to look for ways to help reduce costs for members through a number of insurance programs that benefit the bottom line. For additional assistance contact the KFIA office or any of the companies working with these programs.
